HHI Leadership Forum to Host Special Session on the Renters’ Rights Act

The Healthy Housing Initiative (HHI) is pleased to announce a special Leadership Forum session taking place on Friday 1st May 2026 (2:00–3:00pm, online), focusing on the evolving landscape of renters’ rights in the UK.

This dedicated forum will centre on the Renters’ Rights Act, bringing together research, policy insight, and lived experience to explore its implications for the private rented sector. The session will be led by Dr Tom Simcock, who will present the latest findings from HHI’s ongoing research programme.

The discussion will cover several key themes shaping the future of renting, including the meaning of home within the private rented sector, the growing importance of pet-friendly rental policies, and how renters engage with their rights in practice. The session will also reflect on lessons from previous legislative changes, offering a critical perspective on how policy translates into real-world outcomes for tenants.

This forum comes at a pivotal moment, as the sector continues to navigate reform and respond to shifting expectations around security, wellbeing, and autonomy in housing. By combining empirical research with broader reflections on policy and practice, the session aims to support more informed, equitable, and effective approaches to renting.

The HHI Leadership Forum provides a space for academics, policymakers, and practitioners to engage in meaningful dialogue on pressing housing issues. This upcoming session promises to be both timely and impactful, offering valuable insights for anyone working across housing, health, and social policy.

We look forward to welcoming participants to what promises to be a highly engaging and thought-provoking event.
