About this theme

Housing policy plays a critical role in shaping people’s health, security, and opportunities. Reforms to housing systems, welfare, regulation, and service delivery can have far-reaching consequences — particularly for households already facing disadvantage.

Through this theme, the Healthy Housing Initiative examines how housing policy operates in practice, how reforms are experienced on the ground, and how systems can be improved to deliver better health and wellbeing outcomes. Our work bridges research, policy, and practice, ensuring evidence informs real-world decision-making.

Our Work

We work closely with policymakers, local authorities, housing providers, regulators, and national organisations to evaluate the impacts of housing reform and system-wide change.
Our research focuses on:

1) how policies translate into everyday practice
2) unintended consequences of reform
3) barriers to effective implementation
4) opportunities for cross-sector collaboration
5) improving accountability, fairness, and outcomes

By combining empirical research with policy analysis, we help ensure housing policy delivers meaningful change.
